Thyme (Thymus vulgaris)

Thyme is native to the Mediterranean herb. The herb is also been known for its antibacterial, insecticidal, and antifungal properties.  Throughout history, the Egyptians used thyme for embalming to protect from black death in humans. In the European middle ages, the herb was placed under your pillow to stop you from having nightmares. Women often in this period also would give Knights and Warriors gifts that included thyme leaves since it was believed to bring courage to the bearer.

Fun Fact

Thyme actually retains its flavor and smell when drying far better than other herbs.  Great for soups!
