Botanically did you know that peas are considered a fruit? Since they contain seeds and develop from a flower. In earlier times peas were actually grown just for their seeds to improve their yields. They have been around since the 3rd Century BC. Explicitly noted in early 1124.
Native to Europe they were eventually introduced to Alberta Canada.
There are many varieties of peas. Early Dwarf Peas are excellent to grow in Container gardens. Reaching about 25cm tall or 1 meter. Tall varieties grow to about 2 meters.
Nutritionally peas are rich in Vitamins A, B6, C, and K. Also high in fiber, protein, phosphorus, magnesium, copper, iron, zinc, and lutein.
