Beets are also known as Beetroot is the taproot portion of the plant. Usually known in Canada and the US as “beet”.  It is actually from the chard family. Beets have been used for not just eating, but for food coloring and as a medicinal plant.

Beets were domesticated in the ancient Middle East primary for their greens. They were also grown in Ancient Egypt, even wine was made from beets. There are so many types of beets to choose from.

Nutrition

Raw Beetroot is 88% water, 10% Carbs, 2% Protein. It is rich in folate and manganese. In preliminary research, beetroot juice reduced blood pressure in some people. Also a small improvement in endurance for athletes.
